Aveli: Addressing the Cause of Cellulite Dimples

Carter MD Aesthetics  |  By William A. Carter, M.D., and Vicki Vellios, RN, LE

Cellulite is incredibly common, affecting an estimated 80–90% of women. Despite how common it is, many women are bothered by the dimpling it creates, particularly on the buttocks and backs of the thighs.

Cellulite is not simply a result of excess weight or a lack of exercise. It is largely related to the structure of the tissue beneath the skin. Fibrous connective tissue bands can pull downward on the skin, creating the familiar dimples and uneven texture associated with cellulite.

Understanding what causes cellulite is important when choosing a treatment designed to improve its appearance.

Why Is Cellulite So Difficult to Treat?

Over the years, many different treatments have been developed to improve the appearance of cellulite, with varying degrees of success. Weight loss alone often does little to address cellulite, and many energy-based devices have produced limited results in our experience at Carter MD Aesthetics.

We previously used Qwo, an injectable enzyme designed to break down the collagen bands responsible for cellulite dimpling. While the concept was promising, significant bruising and the risk of prolonged skin discoloration made it a less desirable option for our patients.

The challenge with cellulite is that the dimpling originates beneath the skin’s surface. Rather than simply treating the appearance of the skin, an effective approach needs to address the underlying structures responsible for creating the dimples.

How Does Aveli Work?

Aveli is a minimally invasive treatment designed to address the underlying cause of cellulite dimples. Using a specialized, slender instrument inserted beneath the skin through small punctures, the provider can identify and release the fibrous connective tissue bands responsible for pulling the skin downward.

By releasing these bands, Aveli helps the skin return to a smoother, more even appearance.

The procedure begins with the injection of a dilute solution of lidocaine and epinephrine to provide local anesthesia and help minimize bleeding. The Aveli device has a slender, cannula-like tip that is guided beneath the skin to release the targeted bands.

Depending on the number of dimples being treated, the procedure typically takes approximately 45 minutes to two hours.

What Is Recovery Like?

Following Aveli treatment, some initial soreness, swelling and bruising can be expected. Over-the-counter pain relievers, such as Tylenol or Advil, may help manage discomfort, as appropriate for the individual patient.

Patients should plan to wear a compression garment, such as Spanx, for the first two weeks to help manage swelling and support the healing process.

While recovery experiences vary, most patients can expect some temporary tenderness and swelling as the treated areas heal. Our team will provide individualized aftercare instructions to help support a smooth recovery.

When Will I See Results?

One of the advantages of Aveli is that it is designed to provide long-lasting improvement with just one treatment.

As the initial swelling subsides, improvements in the appearance of cellulite will gradually become more noticeable. Results continue to develop over the following months, with the final appearance typically becoming more established around three to four months after treatment.

Results may last from one to five years or longer, although individual outcomes and the duration of results will vary.

How Much Does Aveli Cost?

Aveli treatment typically ranges from $3,000 to $5,000, depending on the individual treatment area and the extent of cellulite being addressed.

At Carter MD Aesthetics, we are pleased to offer introductory pricing starting at $2,500*. Your exact treatment plan and pricing will be determined during your initial consultation.

Is Aveli Right for You?

If cellulite dimpling on your buttocks or thighs is something you’d like to address, Aveli may be an option worth exploring. Unlike treatments that focus primarily on the skin’s surface, Aveli works by releasing the fibrous bands responsible for creating the dimples.

At Carter MD Aesthetics, Dr. William Carter and Vicki Vellios, RN, LE, can help you understand the procedure, discuss your goals and determine whether Aveli is appropriate for you.

If you’re ready to explore a treatment designed to address the underlying cause of cellulite, we invite you to schedule a consultation with our team. Let’s discuss your options and help you take the next step toward smoother-looking skin.

Individual results vary. Aveli is a medical procedure and may involve risks, side effects and recovery time. A consultation is necessary to determine whether treatment is appropriate.
